This hand woven, luxurious 'Huipil' or dress is created in San Juan Colorado, Oaxaca. Each style is hand crafted with natural dyes and woven into 100% cotton cloth using the ancient weaving technique of a backstop loom. This mini pink style is cropped short at knee length for a more fun and whimsical silhouette. Made to drapebeautifullyin a naturally oversized tunic or caftan shape, belted at the waist for a more fitted look.
It can take up to one month to make a single SJ Huipil, not including the time spent boiling the dyes, hand cleaning and spinning yarn andembroidering. This lengthy process iswhy these pieces are limited, rare and one of a kind. Many dye plants are seasonal and can only be found during certain months. No two are the same making each Huipil completely original.
This sustainable and responsible process is created by a circle of indigenous womenwho are paid fair wages and are able to support theirfamilies while passing down their cultural traditions to the following generation.
